Introduction to British Curriculum Primary

BC Primary

BC Primary provides a vibrant and stimulating educational environment for around 1500 children from Foundation Stage to Year 6. Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum for core subjects, and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for theme and humanities.

Our internationally diverse range of pupils are provided with a high quality education, delivered by experienced and dedicated teachers from around the world.

As well as a strong focus on the core areas of English literacy (reading, writing and speaking) and numeracy, science and ICT, we also provide specialist lessons in physical education (PE), music, languages and Islamic studies.

Our emphasis is on developing the whole child. This is reflected in the importance placed on the vital partnership between home and school, and it is supported by our successful Virtues programme and house system. Both place a priority on developing well rounded, globally minded learners who are able to communicate and socialise effectively.

A combination of world class provision of resources across the primary school, low pupil to teacher ratios, and a highly dedicated and child focused teaching and management staff, ensures our primary school is a truly great place for students to learn and grow, academically and socially.

Foundation Stage (FS)

Foundation Stage (FS)

We provide opportunities through a planned, and child initiated curriculum to enable students to develop a positive self-esteem and attitude. We aim for students to gain confidence, an enquiring mind and to become successful learners. We provide opportunities for every student to achieve their potential in a warm and child-centred environment.

Key Stage 1 – Years 1 - 2

Key Stage 1 – Years 1 - 2

We focus strongly in Key Stage 1 on building upon the foundation work that has taken place in FS. Students are provided with a wide range of learning experiences that integrate all aspects of the curriculum to ensure learning is fun, focused and meaningful. The core areas of literacy and numeracy are further developed and skills of reading, writing and speaking are given a particular emphasis during the school day.

Key Stage 2 – Years 3 - 6

Key Stage 2 – Years 3 - 6

During these years, students will develop increasing independence and utilise core skills gained across a range of areas.

Key Stage 2 continues to build on the Virtues programme and House system to provide students with increased opportunities to develop the ability to work effectively with others, to become responsible learners and to enhance leadership skills.

The cross-curricular approach to curriculum planning makes learning meaningful and the rich resource base encourages a wide range of learning activities to take place.

Our teachers work extremely hard to ensure that by the end of Year 6, students are prepared to make a successful transition to AKIS Secondary.
