Extra-Curricular Activities

At AKIS, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Our extensive Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) programme plays a vital role in supporting students’ academic, physical, and personal development, helping them discover new interests, develop talents, and build confidence.

Built around the key pillars of Academics, Sport, and Culture, our ECA programme provides students with opportunities to challenge themselves, develop new skills, and engage with the wider school community. Through participation, students learn the importance of teamwork, resilience, leadership, and commitment while enjoying experiences that enrich their educational journey.

Our outstanding sporting facilities include a running track, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, grass football pitches, sports halls, and a climbing wall. Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting activities, with many representing the school in competitions across Qatar and the wider region.

Alongside sport, we offer a diverse range of cultural and academic activities that encourage creativity, communication, and global awareness. Opportunities include music, drama, debating, Model United Nations (MUN), the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, choir, and many other activities designed to inspire and challenge students.

Through our ECA programme, students are encouraged to pursue their passions, broaden their horizons, and develop the skills and confidence needed to thrive both in school and beyond.

Model United Nations

Model United Nations (MUN) is a globally recognised programme that enables students to explore international issues, develop global awareness, and engage with the challenges facing our world today. Through research, debate, negotiation, and collaboration, students gain a deeper understanding of international relations while developing the confidence to contribute meaningfully to society.

MUN provides students with opportunities to participate in conferences alongside peers from local and international schools. These experiences help students develop valuable transferable skills, including public speaking, critical thinking, leadership, teamwork, diplomacy, and effective communication.

Since its establishment in 2015, AKISMUN has grown into a thriving student-led programme involving participants from both the British Curriculum and CBSE pathways. Led by a dedicated student Executive Team, the programme offers meaningful opportunities for leadership, organisation, and service.

Through MUN, students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become informed, responsible, and globally minded citizens, preparing them for success in higher education and beyond.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a globally recognised programme that empowers young people to develop confidence, resilience, leadership, and independence through a range of challenging and rewarding experiences.

Open to British Curriculum Year 10–13 and CBSE Grade 9–12 students, the Award encourages participants to step beyond their comfort zones while developing valuable life skills. Through volunteering, skills development, physical recreation, and adventurous journeys, students learn the importance of commitment, teamwork, perseverance, and service to others.

The Award provides a unique opportunity for students to challenge themselves, discover their strengths, and build the qualities needed for success in higher education, employment, and life beyond school. As they progress through the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels, participants gain experiences that foster personal growth, responsibility, and global citizenship.

Through the International Award, AKIS students are encouraged to become confident, capable, and compassionate individuals who are prepared to make a positive contribution to their communities and the wider world.
