Being part of the AKIS community for the past 26 years has been a very special journey for me.

Since joining in 1999, I have had the privilege of seeing the school grow and develop from its early days into the respected and successful school it is today. AKIS is more than just a workplace to me; it has been an important part of my family’s life. My three children attended and graduated from AKIS, which makes my connection to the school even more special. I am truly grateful to QatarEnergy LNG for its continued commitment to providing high standard of education, and I am proud to have been part of the AKIS journey.

I have been very fortunate to have worked at AKIS for the past 13 years, taking on a variety of pastoral responsibilities within the school.

I have really valued the opportunities to develop professionally while being part of such a safe, supportive and welcoming community. I am blessed to have a work-life balance in the sun.

AKIS is our family. Our two daughters have both grown and benefited from the excellent education and opportunities the school provides, both academically and holistically. One daughter is on the IGCSE pathway, while the other is studying Education in the USA.

I feel very grateful for the experiences, support and friendships I have developed at such a respected establishment.

I joined AKIS in 2014 as a Geography teacher and became a Housemaster in 2021. Over the past 12 years, AKIS has become much more than just a place to work; it has genuinely become my home away from home. I have loved being part of such a welcoming and supportive community and have been fortunate to work alongside so many wonderful colleagues and students.

What makes AKIS particularly special to me is the people. I have made many lasting friendships and shared so many memorable experiences over the years. I have also had the opportunity to grow and develop in my career, taking on new challenges and responsibilities along the way. Working as part of the Medical Team here at AKIS since September 2013 brings me nothing but happiness and satisfaction as I ensure that the students are in optimal health.

Being part of an international team has helped broaden my capabilities in communication and the way I view and learn about each different culture. I have also reinforced my knowledge of First Aid and Child Protection through the seminars AKIS has provided.

AKIS has opened new doors for me and for my children to have a brighter future.

I came to Qatar from England to work at AKIS, initially intending to stay for just two years. I am now in my seventh year as a Music Teacher in BC Primary. Professionally, it is incredibly rewarding to work in such a multicultural environment, where parents, students, and staff support one another like one big family. The Senior Leadership Team are approachable, supportive, and always willing to help. The school calendar is filled with exciting sporting and musical events, and AKIS offers a wide range of extracurricular activities to suit all interests, talents, and abilities. Outside of school, Doha provides a wealth of social opportunities, making it a wonderful place to live and work.

I joined AKIS in 2014 as an English teacher with almost 20 years’ experience of working in great schools in Sunderland, UK. So, it was a bold, challenging and adventurous move. And after 12 years here, I can tell you that it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Brilliant students, talented staff and a superb teaching environment have made it all worthwhile. It took hardly any time for me to feel a part of this dynamic and supportive community. Students and staff always have a smile on their faces at our school, and it is a pleasure to work here. This is a school where people thrive; it’s a place of ideas, creativity and collaboration. You’ll meet dedicated staff and hardworking students from every corner of the globe. It’s been my privilege to work here at AKIS and to call Qatar my home. Moving from the UK nine years ago to AKIS for my first international teaching experience was, at the time, a significant step, but I can honestly say it has been hugely professionally and personally rewarding.

One of the things I have appreciated most is the people. I have been fortunate to work with supportive colleagues and approachable leaders who have patiently guided me, helped me develop my skills, and encouraged me to continue improving. Over the years, I have made some lifelong friends at AKIS, as the low staff turnover has allowed me to build lasting relationships. It is this strong sense of community that I really value.

Our students are polite, hard-working, and genuinely eager to learn, which makes the classroom a great place to be.

Looking back, I am grateful that I took the leap of faith to join AKIS nine years ago. It has given me the opportunity to develop as a teacher, build lasting friendships and, most importantly, be part of a community that I have genuinely enjoyed being a part of. I joined AKIS at the start of 2025 as a Computer Science and ICT teacher, and from the very beginning, I felt incredibly welcomed and supported. Having initially come to Qatar on my own, the kindness of my colleagues made settling into a new country much easier. What I love most about AKIS is its strong sense of community.

I joined AKIS in 2019, when I first moved to Qatar. Being away from my family and starting a new chapter in a new country was a significant change, but the warmth of the school community and the people around me gradually made AKIS feel like a new home. One of the most positive aspects of my experience has been the school’s commitment to offering Photography as a specialist subject at high school level. AKIS is one of the few schools in the region to provide this opportunity, which has been especially meaningful to me as both a practising artist and a photography teacher. Over the years, I have valued the opportunity to bring my creative practice into the classroom, support students in finding their own visual language, and be part of a community that recognises the importance of creativity and Photography within education.

I have been part of AKIS since 2001, and it has been a very rewarding part of my life. Over the years, I have grown professionally and enjoyed helping my students learn and develop both academically and personally. I really appreciate the friendly and supportive atmosphere at the school, where staff work together and support one another. I joined AKIS in my late twenties as a Year 6 teacher and, as I approach my forties, have worked my way through BC Primary, CBSE and now BC Secondary as a Housemaster. Either I enjoy a new challenge, or I’m determined to work in every part of the school before retirement! Along the way, I’ve had the pleasure of working with fantastic colleagues and supporting memorable students at different stages of their school journey. AKIS has given me opportunities to grow, plenty of laughs and a few grey hairs—but, thankfully, far more of the first two.

Teaching at Al Khor International School has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. As a Music Teacher, I have had the privilege of helping to develop a thriving music programme, collaborating on school productions and events, and creating opportunities for students to share their talents both within the school and in the wider community.

What makes AKIS so special is its people. The enthusiasm and talent of our students, the support of colleagues, and the school's commitment to providing a premier education create a truly inspiring environment. I joined AKIS in 2025, and it has been an outstanding place to teach science. The students are phenomenal—high-achieving, aspirational and eagerly engaged in their learning—and the science results have been exceptional year on year. The department is exceptionally equipped to a standard I have not seen elsewhere, which means practical work is at the heart of every unit, and the curriculum continues to develop and improve with innovative techniques. My colleagues are world-class teachers, and the school provides every opportunity and all the support you need to teach to your highest standard. Since joining, I have been able to further develop my pedagogy and classroom practice towards mastery-level teaching, and it is a privilege to be part of a community that expects the best and gives you everything you need to achieve it.
